I had been used their product 5,000 watt and this 10,000 both are break down after warranty 12 months. The manufacturer will not take any support. However, after spending several months trying to repair my pricey and ever failing gas generator, I searched the internet for a better option. I came across this Wagan inverter and was weary about purchasing after reading one of the reviews. However, I decided to purchase it anyway. It arrived within just days and I was eager to try it out. I browsed through the manual but I still wanted more information. I called their Tech Support line and ACTUALLY REACHED A LIVE PERSON on the first call (Lets face it, that doesnt happen too often anymore!). She was able to tell me what cables were needed, what batteries she recommended and the head technician was even able to give me step by step installation instructions... All of this at NO COST (another rarity!). It was easy to install and I was up and going in no time. It feels great not having to worry about running out of gas (or that terrible gasoline smell) for a change! This is the second purchase of the Extreme Power Corp's 20W Solar Panel. The first unit did not meet the specifications defined on the label attached to the rear of the panel so I purchased this second unit to determine if the first unit was faulty. The second unit performed the same way. Here are the details: I tested the two units at 1000W/Sq. Meter in the sun (Calibration by Davis Weather station solar sensor) at 25 degC and 55 degC into a resistive 16 ohm load (VPmax/IPmax). Here are the results, spec. values in parenthesis: Open Circuit Voltage 19.4 volts (21.18V) P Max at 25deg C - 16.5 Watts (20 Watts) P Max at 55deg C - 12.8 Watts (Not specified but usual operating temp) Voltage at Pmax - 14.45 at 55 deg C (17.5 at 25 deg C) Short Circuit Current at 55 deg C 1.0 Amps (1.33 Amps at 25 deg C) I reported these resulte to Extreme Power Corp but there has been no comment. Two points to bear in mind. 1. - There is a tendancy to overspecify solar panel performance and 2. - Specifications are for performance at 25 deg C and no solar panel operates at this temperature. The maximum power output under any load conditions that I can get from these panels when cool (immediately after exposing to the sun) and at 1000 W/Sq. is 16.6 Watts. By William Yerazunis The panel took about a week to arrive; the packing was "wierd" (bubble wrap wrapped around the cardboard! ) but it was intact. The frame is aluminium, however the backing is plastic and the front side is glass (not Tefzel). The whole thing is sealed with copious amounts of silicone rubber. The wierd part of this panel is that it's _not_ exactly a 12-volt panel. In full noonday sun, it puts out 20 volts open-circuit, at 1.03 amperes. This is

It puts out what is claimed in terms of wattage. It has a bypass diode already installed. It is housed in anodized aluminum frame with durable glass front, foamcore type material backing, a junction box with diode on the back, and a 2 foot cable. I put Powerpole connectors like 30A Power Pole Connector (4 Black, 4 Red) Anderson-Sermos on the cable and it works very well powering my portable ham radio gear. Great system By TVGuidry We bought the Go Power Weekender solar and inverter package, so we could keep the batteries charged on the RV, and also have the ability to run the TV at night as well as the microwave without running our generator. The kit came with everything we needed to install the solar panel and the 1500 watt inverter including a 30 amp transfer switch. This was actually a very nice addition because it makes it so when the inverter is on, all of the outlets in the RV still work just like when we are plugged in at an RV park. The solar has kept the 2 6 volt batteries that we have on the RV topped up even on fairly cloudy days. We may need to add another panel down the road for the trips over a week but for now we have found the system has been perfect. I would recommend this system for anyone that wants a complete plug and play solar and inverter system. Once it was installed we have not really had a need for the generator unless we are using the Air Conditioner a lot. The system has definitely been one of the best things we have bought for our RV. The charge controller is adequate to the task but there's no display, other than "charging/charged" lights. If you want to know your amps or voltage, you're out of luck (without a separate ammeter). The power inverter is nice, though at 200W its overkill for a 55W (max) panel set. At noon in Seattle in early March I saw a peak of 40W in direct sun, so the rating seems realistic. In shade they produce (for me, anyway) about half an amp, which is around 7 watts. If you consider a Gator battery (small motorcycle-style gel battery) is 12Ah, that means it could charge one fully in about 5 hours of sun or 2 days of shade. 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. It's great; I can get out one, two or three panels as I need charging; I even sometimes have one panel out while sailing, which is enough to run my autopilot. It's very good. The battery did not activate with the solar charger and I had to use the wall outlet. I also could not get my cell phone to charge off the internal battery but technical support has been pretty friendly and helpful so far. Some things have not been resolved as of yet. A note to keep in mind is that the unit seems to need to be in direct light for a long time. The window approach did not work all that well as direct light was not available full time. Works as advertised By weBBed I almost didn't buy this because of the 1-star reviews -- but then I noticed those reviewers were just ignorant. (Uninformed Amazon reviewers?!, gosh what a shock...). I used a fuse tap to install an always-on 12V cigarette lighter adapter in my SUV for this panel. The low voltage trickle is enough to keep my battery topped off indefinitely, even after 2 and 3 weeks of just sitting in the driveway (whereas my battery would sometimes be almost dead after sitting for a week). When I first received it after filling fluids and connected battery it fired right up. I was running at full throttle and had no ac output. After contacting seller he was able to lead me to a lose connector, that fixed the problem. Fired it back up and the first thing i noticed was it was very quiet, pluged in the camper and started turning on everything even the AC. That little generator took them all on with out any problem. It is such a bargain for this price. I used to use my Onan and burned up a lot of gas. I am really happy with this. I took it to a long 2 months trip up in Canada this summer. It powers everything in my 28' Coachman including my AC. When I use my AC, the generator can last around 10 hours on one filling. When I am not using the AC, it can run up to 20 hours. It can start and turn off very easy with the remote start. Many campers asked me where to buy it and want to borrow it to try. They don't believe they can get such a loaded generator at around $1000. When I am using less power, it can idle down automatically to save gas. It is reasonable quiet when running. I had used it for over 2000 hours and never a problem. It need to change oil every 200 hours. It is a little heavy at around 130 lbs with fuel. I have to ask someone to help me to put into my RV. My wife is not strong enough to help. I tried to run it on the slide out side tray so that I don't have to take it out to put on the ground. However, the generator vibrate my RV all night long so it won't work. I think this is a great generator for people with RV as well as using it as a home backup generator. The workmanship and quality is just as good as Honda as far as I seen. Yesterday noon I got the X-Power 400 delivered by UPS, and in few hours it was put to its ultimate test. Yes we were hit by the 08/14 Thursday North East Blackout. But with the help of the X-Power 400, I was able to hookup the 13"TV and Dish receiver. Enought to spend the restof the evening siting in the desk and watching the CNN news update and TV programs with family and friends. I love the cigrette adapter and the battery clips. I used the battery clips to get power from my car battery. I recommend X-Power 400 for any regular household use. If you are planning to operate power tools, I suggest get the 700 or above. This unit can attach to the cigarette lighter or directly to the battery. The 700 watt unit skips the lighter input -- fine with me but maybe not with you. If you need lighter input then get the 400 watt unit. I will say that the inverter is well built and designed. I like the fact that the power input leads are attached via screw posts. Collins I purchased a Ramsond charge controllers about 3 years ago and it has preformed flawlessly since then. I have it connected to a 5 watt solar panel that keeps the battery charged in a 10KW Diesel generator. It keeps the battery charged at all times. The exact same battery kept going down after charging with a battery charger almost every three weeks. It's worth the price of the charge controller just to have peace of mind and no trouble. The battery has never gone down in 3 years! I also have a 20 watt Ramsond (black)solar panel and it produces far more power than the 20 watt (blue)solar panel by another manufacturer. Based on my experience with Ramsond, solar panels and charge controllers, Ramsond has products that are superior in quality. I have solar panels by 9 different manufacturers and charge controllers by 5 different manufacturers and some out-perform others. My main house solar setup has been running flawlessly since 2005. I have 4 independent solar setups for different projects that I work on. I will buy Ramsond products in the future! For people that have had problems with these charge controllers, this is my suggestion: Disconnect the solar panel from the charge controller, but leave the battery connected. Leave it disconnected for a few hours and then reconnect. As background, the panel is glued to a rubber membrane, and that in turn has a adhesive that is covered with waxed paper until you are ready to instll (glue it down) onto the roof of the RV. When I first rolled out the panel there were some obvious bubbles where the lamenent between the panel and the rubber membrane had separated during storage or shipping ( one panel was from September 2009, another from November 2010 both were the same. I rolled out and left flat for 4 hours in the hot sun and the bubbles id not go away. However, the sun softened the glue so I could insert an old dull dinner knofe (not sharp!) between the panel and the membrane to allow the trapped air to get out. I then used a linoleum roller (a bread rolling pin would work but there would be troubkle on the home front). The knife was a sticky mess, but once the ir was out panel and membrane layed flat. I don't know waht you would do in 50 degree weather - a heat gun and the same knife/and roller might work. I installed 4 panels so I used the provided 10 gauge wire on the roof to a single location where I upsized befor dropping through the roof and to the controller/batteries. I have isolated each panel - each outperforms the 68 watt 4-amp specs, and they do this in partial shade!! and late in the afternoon. Very pleased. When you put a load on the battery, like moving out the slide on and RV, they hang right in there on peak power. I was not impressed with putting 20 holes in the roof to mount each panel with the heavy rubber hardware provided. I see manufacturere now has replaced most of these screws with glue down rubber mounting hardware, but this is clearly older stock. I ended up using standard RV Endurabond roof tape, with RV caulk around its edge to keep its glue from being tacky. Way cleaner, lighter, in weight and color, and, in my opinion, all that is needed to hold a streamline waterproof attachment. ANd way better than rattling hardwar on the roof for a standard metal framed panel. Yes the metal panel is cheaper and more powerful, but too much hassle raising and lowering them every time you stop to get max amps. See all 1 customer reviews...

Good Inverter - Beware of those unfamiliar with Inverters By L-C Beware of all those talking about failures of the inverter - one guy says that he returned his, because two 70Ah batteries couldn't power it to run a 1/2 horsepower motor. Well...guys, there are a few things you need to know about inverters before buying a big one...which does NOT directly substitute for a generator! The little ones are WAY DIFFERENT than the big ones. First off, at 2500-watts, you are pulling 200+ amps across the wire...so, unless you are hard-wired with some 4/0 solid-strand wire, you really need to go with DOUBLE 4-AWG strand wires...basically, buy TWO sets of 4-AWG jumper cables, and after you cut the ends off both, then run double-strand (both red AND black) of a complete set to EACH POST of the inverter...yes guys, that's a LOT of wire...and due to heat, I wouldn't run that more than 5-6 feet! Now...batteries...let's laugh at the guy trying to get 1600 watts of batteries to run a 2500 watt inverter...and consider what you REALLY NEED...for deep cycle batteries rated on the 20-Ah system, and rated at, say 500-Amps, then buy 6 of these and wire them in PARALLEL circuit to power the inverter. Yep...$600 in deep cycle batteries! Now, you have enough batteries to power the inverter for 2-6 hours, depending on loading, before you will need to recharge your 6-battery bank. Plan on a charger that can throw 50-100 amps into the charge...so your little $50 Schumacher charger is NOT going to charge this battery bank overnight! Try more like a $300 charger to charge them in 12-hours...or, if you want solar, good...you need to throw about 70-amps of charge into these for 12-hours solid...so that is $300-$500 in solar panels. Also note...batteries get weak after enough cycles...so pay attention to your charge circuit...and a charging circuit MINDER isn't a bad idea, either! How do I know this? Because these are all the big troubles encountered when I was a Director of Engineering for an RV Manufacturer...and when you get over 1500-Watts of inverter involved...you start playing by a whole new set of rules! It is MUCH CHEAPER to go with a 3000-watt generator, than to even CONSIDER getting a 2500-watt inverter. This is a good inverter...but buying one this big and not knowing how to care for and maintain it, is like buying a big chemistry set and giving it without supervision to your mischievous 12-year old...it is NOT a good idea. 64 of 66 people found the following review helpful. Just O.K. By A. Spees We have alot of experience with inverters, and this inverter is just average. It does produce quite a bit of power, but we seem unable to run both of our energy efficient freezers simulatneously (about 1.7 amps draw each freezer --200watts). Also, it does not come with cables to attach it to the batteries, so expect to buy those too. Lastly, and most importantly is the noise. The inverter cooling fan starts up at even the smallest load, and it is loud. As more load is applied the cooling fan ramps up louder and louder. It is not so loud as to hurt your ears, but it is loud enough to be annoying and to heard throughout whatever room it is in, so I recommend you buy the remote start if you choose to buy this unit. Locate it in a closet or shed so you don't have to listen to it. We have had other inverters that cost much less, but of course only 1200 Watts of power, that had NONE of the shortcomings of this one (our old 1200 Watt model simultaneously ran both freezers, T.V. VCR, DVD player, speakers, and lights; it came with a connector cable, and its fan was quiet and only came on during high loads). The reason we purchased this one is because all the previous inverters, although quiet and efficient, eventually died, and we hoped that this one could handle the peak loads better. 9 April 2009: Just a brief update. By Mario Aguilar Jr. First I bought a small inverted thinking it will be enough to power up a big air condition and it failed. Then, I bought this humongous powerful inverter and at first it also failed. Their customer service is GREAT explain the problem. I was connecting the inverter with gauge 4 cables and it was powering up most stuff, but when it came to the 10,000 BTU air condition it failed. Then, they told me to change does weak gauge 4 cables and get gauge 0. After, that it was a beauty. This is hooked up with 2 106AH marine battery for now which I am going to put 10 in total. They are being charge by solar panels for now I only have 360 watts with gauge 4 wires, later I will put for 1000 watts of solar panels. Quick update, the A/C actually sucks about 4,600 watts for a good 10 seconds before it drops down to regular watt at 890 watts. Sense this thing actually is 6,000 watts and 12,000 peak there is no problem. With does 2 106AH marine battery it last just over 1 hour at night and 1h20min at night. 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Powerful Product For The Price By Uranus Speaks From Lowe's (same author) This inverter has so far (about three weeks of use) proven reliable and easy to use. The question is does the average person need a "6000" watt inverter. From what I've learned, it depends mainly on what your appliance starting loads require, not the operating load. If you're going to run a modern refrigerator or microwave oven I've found the 3000 watt starts and runs ok. But I wouldn't recommend it for the big microwave ovens--the 3000 watt unit just can't keep up with the demand. A small airconditioner that has a 1000 watt operating consumption may well require 4000-5000 watts over 5-10 seconds to start its compressor. The 3000 watt inverter has been known to kick off line after only a couple of seconds at 4500 watts and therefore won't start the airconditioner. This 6000 watt inverter does well here with plenty of operating juice to keep stuff running, but puts a real drain on the batteries. Also worth noting is this 6000 watt inverter seems to maintain more voltage stability--I've run it at around 3000 watts and the its output voltage never dropped below 118 VAC and its frequency remained steady at 59-60 cycles per second. There are two basic power measurements for generators: peak power (also known as startup power) and continuous power. Both are measured in wattage. Peak power is the wattage required for appliances at startup or when they are running at their highest levels of power consumption. Continuous power is the wattage required for operation of those appliances under normal load. Standby Generators: Standby generators create from 5,000 to 25,000 watts or more of power. You'll have to choose a generator that supplies sufficient peak and continuous wattage for the appliances on the circuits you need to power. You can choose between an air-cooled and a liquid-cooled model standby generator. Generally, liquid-cooled models are bigger and create more power. Portable Generators: A small 1,000-watt portable generator may be all you need for recreational purposes. And you may use up to 8,000 watts if using a generator to power tools on the jobsite. Because you plug appliances directly into a portable generator, you'll also want to make sure that your model has the number and type of outlets you need. The size of the fuel tank also is crucial. The bigger the tank, the longer your generator can run without refilling and produce power. Aside from pure power production, there are some useful features and accessories to consider when buying a generator. The transfer switch safely closes off the utility power line to your house's electrical system and opens a direct line to the generator and reverses the process when utility power is restored. Standby models can work either with a manual or an automatic transfer switch. The benefit of an automatic transfer switch is that it senses when utility power has been lost and automatically switches to generator power. Wheeled Frames: As the name suggests, portable generators can be transported to different locations. The smallest portable generators are comparatively light--perhaps 50 pounds--and can be carried. Standby Generators: Installing a standby generator by yourself may void the unit's warranty or violate local building codes, so research these issues before you begin. The basic steps are as follows. First, mount the unit outside your home on a concrete pad or plastic mounting pads that come with the generator. You may need a contractor to pour the concrete foundation and mount the generator. Next you'll need to contact your gas or propane company to connect the unit to its fuel source. Last, you'll have to call an electrician to hook the generator up to your home's electrical system. Some generators come with pre-wired kits that make it easier for the "do-it-yourselfer" to do the wiring. In most cases, it's probably safest and best to have this work done for you. Once situated, fill the generator with the required type of gasoline and oil and start the unit. However you use your generator, over time you'll have to change filters, oil, and spark plugs. Plus, you should not store raw gasoline in the generator when you're not using it. Either run the generator empty or add a gasoline stabilizer that will prevent the gasoline from "gumming" up. Many manufacturers sell tune-up kits for their models. How Do I Run a Generator Safely? Do not operate generators indoors, in enclosed spaces, or near a window. Make sure there is proper ventilation for all exhaust. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance. Do not operate generators near combustible materials. Operate portable generators on a level surface. Do not plug a portable generator directly into your house circuit. Do not attach a generator's transfer switch to your circuit box yourself unless you're very sure of what you're doing. I live in an area (upstate NY) where we lose power frequently. The item arrived and was delivered to my back yard in perfect working order. We recently had a very bad ice storm in the Northeast and we lost power for 3 days. The generator worked perfectly running my sump pump, hot water heater (gas, direct vent), furnace, fridge (2) and several lights. I had to run power cords from outside rather than use the NEMA power cord to a manual transfer switch I had installed before the generator was delivered (more on that later). I ran the house for 10-12 hours on the 2 20lb propane tanks before I needed to change them out, which was to me, excellent. The generator is very quiet, we could barely hear it in the house. I have it installed behind my garage facing downwind of the house. Okay, the transfer switch issue. While the manual, Briggs & Stratton web site, Briggs & Stratton FAQ page does not specifically state this, you MUST purchase the B&S manual transfer switch PERIOD! The model number is Briggs & Stratton 71014 - PowerNow Generator Transfer Kit (10 Circuits). This is the only transfer switch that works with the GFCI breaker installed in the generator. I had 3 electricians (friends of mine) look at the gen-tran 30 amp transfer switch wiring that was installed in my house and it is NOT a switching neutral switch. Confused? I was too until I got on the phone with a very nice B&S technician who told me to only use their switch. I was dissapointed as I then needed to shell out another $400.00 but now it's working fine. I did let B&S know that they should be specific about the fact that only their switch is compatible with these types of generators. It is because of this fact that I only rated it 4 stars. All in all that one storm alone made this purchase worth every penny. It also kept the house in harmony (if you know what I mean). I would heartly recommend this generator to anyone who is looking for a well built powerful and quiet standby generator. Moreau Jr. Installation was a snap but I had to go buy a battery. The literature said the unit came with a battery. The only battery that will work comes from Interstate Batteries at a cost of $149. Customer servcie at Briggs said they quit putting in batteries some time ago but did not change their adervertising! First time I used the machine the power went out I went out in the rain to start the machine. It started fine and ran for about 15 minutes then shut down and would not restart. I made the mistake of not latching the access door to the controls. Apparently moisture got in and shut the machine down. After I let the machine dry out for 24 hours it started and ran perfictly. Be sure to shut and latch the access door in wet weather. I wanted to run the machine on Natural Gas. It came with the proper jet to convert it. It said that I would need a special tool and gave the part number to change the jet. I ordered the part and paid $25. When it arrived it was a short handle screw driver. It also powered everything in their house except the air conditioning condensers and the electric stove/oven. That is the good news.
