The MiniChlor will naturally purify spa water using the electrolysis process on salt that is added to the spa water, eliminating the need to manually add chlorine. The MiniChlor operates on a low 2000 PPM salt lever, about 1.5 pounds per 100 gallons of water or only 5.5% the salt level of the ocean. Because the MiniCHlor works 24 hours per day your spa will always be adequately sanitized. In a spa with the hot water the chlorine can dissipate in a couple hours, so it is important to be able to make chlorine 24 hours per day. The MiniChlor doesn't have a solar panel power supply because there would not be any chlorine in your spa when you want to use it, assuming that isn't at the hottest part of the day. A spa isn't like a pool with a large reserve of residual chlorine, in order to be properly sanitized a spa chlorine must be added every couple hours which is what the MiniChlor does while only drawing 6 watts of power (about the same as a night light). The MiniChlor has no buttons, no moving parts, and is very easy to install. The MiniChlor system works as a convection cell that produces sanitizer (either chlorine or bromine) with a micro-bubble action that causes water to enter the bottom part of the cell as the bubbles leave the top. The MiniChlor includes 6 levels of chlorine production, salt level indicator lights and automatic cleaning of the titanium plates. The standard MiniChlor will sanitize any portable spa or hot tub up to 600 gallons. It can be a challenge to to keep the water in your spa or hot tub crystal clear and smelling nice. If you forget to add chlorine or bromine for a single day or the chlorine feeder runs out that could lead to spa problems. Due to the higher temperature of the water the chemical balance is critical to be continuously maintained to keep it safe. I got tired of balancing the chemicals and tired of having to shower off the bromine or chlorine smell after each use. The salt water sanitation method in conjunction with this device has brought the joy of my hot tub back. I started using it in October of '11, it is now March of '12 and I've had to do very little to maintain the water in the tub. Granted, it gets light use, maybe twice a week for an hour each, but still it is far less effort and far greater effect than any other sanitation regimen that I've tried.I wish the interface of blinking lights was a little clearer. The manual does not do a very good job of explaining the how to read the lights to figure out what mode it is running in. It took about two weeks of to finally "grok" it.
